Dear All,
Since about 2 weeks I own a Satellite A200-19L laptop working under Windows Vista. I installed the latest download of Power Video Karaoke V. 1.1.28 and I wanted to create a Karaoke Video.
When I wanted to load an existing .pkd file that I created with my old WindowsXP laptop Vista aborted Power Video Karaoke with the message:
Quote
Power Karaoke has stopped working.
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
Unquote
Now I tried to synchronize a MP3 song with it's lyrics. When I tried to load the MP3, Power Video Karaoke collapsed again with the above quoted message.
I tried different MP3s, all with the same results although these MP3s worked under XP with Power Video Karaoke and also I could play them under Vista with Winamp and Nero Wave Editor and Windows Vista MediaPlayer. Power Video Karaoke under Vista does not like MP3 format and all .pkd files based on MP3 songs, collapse.
Now I converted a MP3 song to .wav and started the synchronization song - lyrics again. It worked with .wav.
As next step I generated a MPEG2 slide show with Nero Vision (Vista proof). I could play the slideshow without any problems with different players under Vista.
But when I merged the slide show with the synchronized Power Video Karaoke song, Video Karaoke displayed a creation time of 238 minutes.
I left the coding running over night. When I looked at the next morning for the result, I got a Karaoke song with blue background. My slideshow was not merged.
I tried it as .avi with different codecs. Everytime the same result: 238 minutes coding time, blue background, no merged background slideshow.
Conclusion:
Power Video Karaoke at it's present version does not work under Windows Vista.
Please inform about your personal experience.
With regards
Siegfried

I am sorry for the problem -- it indeed looks like Power Video Karaoke has problems with Vista. We are working on a new product that will replace PVK, but for now please contact us via email. _________________ Piotr

I have the same problem as orientalsieg. The PowerCDGburner crashed and just won't start in Vista despite several attempts at uninstall and reinstall. |

Thanks btorgan,
As Piotr has announced, an over-worked version of .pkd processing is under programming, so we have to wait.
My way to create Karaoke is now as follows:
1. Converting the MP3 I want to use to .wav with Nero Wave Editor under Vista
2. Synchronayzation of the .wav song with the lyrics with Power Video Karaoke under Vista
3. Creating the background video with Nero Vision under Vista
4. Copying of all Power Video Karaoke files and the background video through an external hard drive on my old XP computer
5. Merging the song and the background with Power Video Karaoke on my old computer under XP
6. Re-transfer of the merging result (Karaoke song with background) to my new computer working under Vista.
7. Inserting the new Karaoke song into an existing menue of TMPGEnc DVD Author 3.0 where I stored my ongoing Karaoke DVD
8. Burning a new DVD that contains in its menue the new song.
This is a little bit complicated, but it works with excellent results.
Piotr, please speed up the PKD re-programming!
I prepare Karaoke on DVD. Every time when I get new pictures/videos from vacations and other occasions I prepare a new Karaoke, after a suitable song, appropriate to the pictures, comes into my mind.
Then I add the new Karaoke to the DVD that I create with TEMPGEnc DVD Author 3.0.
I have chosen TEMPGEnc among other programs (Pinnacle Studio 10.8, Womble and also the famous Nero) because it allows very powerful, but simple the creation and extension of menues.
Further TEMPGEnc shows in detail the parameters of the MPEG files to be used and allows comfortably the modification of the MPEG parameters. Therefore it delivers excellent quality on the burned DVD.
The greatest mess is Nero because it is very fussy and restrictive with the format of imported MPEGs. If the MPEG parameters do not fit exactly to what the Nero programmer thought it is the standard, messy results will be produced.

orientalsieg, we are working on the new version, so please be patient. I am happy that you have a working path that allows you to get the job done, but I understand how inconvenient it is. _________________ Piotr

Dear Piotr,
No problem, the creation of Karaoke Videos is my hobby and I understand it as a challenge to find a way, creating Karaoke, even under these conditions.
I know that Vista is, let's say it softly, extremely difficult, especially for Video usage. Microsoft brought a new version of DivX, release 10.0 and sometimes they made changes only for the sake to make changes, without any benefit to the user.
This impression I got, working with Vista now for about 1 month. It is very boring, to be on the own computer very frequently asked whether the operation really shall be carried out. When I e.g. start the Windows Explorer to show the population of the harddisk, I'm told that this action requires Administrator permission.
What a mess.
This is my computer, I paid for it and I do not need to confirm every and any mouse click.
Further, some areas of the harddisk are not accessable, they are blocked for being displayed. Vista informs that there is no access to specific subdirectories or files when I want to display them.
Why not? I paid for the computer and for the entire harddisk and I want to see everything.
It is my problem when I do wrong things and "drive the computer against the wall" that it totally crashes.
I do not want Microsoft to take these decisions. I'm really thinking to go back to Windows XP. The problem is only that future applications like Video applications will be optimized for Vista and XP will no longer be supported to provide full features for these applications. So everybody is forced to use Vista when he wants to use State of the Art applications.
It's really a pity.
Best regards to Mr. Bill Gates and his messy Windows team!
Best regards from a frustrated Vista user

I installed Vista in February on my main machine. Replaced it with XP 4 days later -- too many software and drivers did not work properly. Now we use Vista on testing machine, but main development systems are still XP. _________________ Piotr
