If I wanted to record someone when they are singing and the mic is connected to a powered mixer not to my laptop, how would connect my laptop to the mixer so I can record the music and the singer Question

I tried connecting the monitor from the mixer back to the laptop using the mic input on the laptop, but I receive nothing but a hum, almost like a feedback

I'm afraid there is no simple solution for that (other than connecting the mic through the laptop for the time of recording) as the mic input in the laptop is not matched with mixer output. In such case Line In input should be used but there is probably no such connection in the laptop available.
