Having more problems than I could overcome with V1.2.13, I broke down
and purchased V1.2.27. That solved the problems with the prior version
but brought a problem of it's own. Importing a .kar file, it goes through
the render and record mid to wave fine. In the sync the words and music
slowly drift apart so that by the end, the words are several behind or ahead of the music. I sent an email to support describing this problem.
Adam Soboscinski sent the following:
Unfortunately there is a problem with some MIDI files (it usualy depends
on the tempo settings -- we use Windows' standard functions to play back MIDI and they are causing problems). We are working on the subject.
He suggested I go into the midi file and change the number of ticks to
192. I tried that with every tick value I had but none made any change.
I came up with a work around for this:
Load the midi file into Cakewalk. Change the tempo slightly higher if the
wave is too long or slightly lower if the wave is too short. Insert the wave
file and check it's length against the midi. If it needs further adjustment
undo the insert, change the temp more and insert the wave again. With a
little practice you will get very close on the first try. Once you have it
where you want it then change the tempo back to the original with the
stretch audio box checked and it will change the tempo of the mid and the wave keeping them synced together. Then export the wave file to
the folder you have it in, overwriting the file that was there. Then open
Powerkaraoke and load the pkd file and you got it fixed. Thais might sound complicated or a lot of doing, but to a perfectionist like myself it is worth the effort.

You need to work on a modified song, otherwise tempo change will spoil the synchronization.
