|
|
Hi guys, new to this forum.
I have a problem with Power Video Karaoke. Whenever I export a file as video, while using footage as a background image, my imported background appears jerky, while the text runs smoothly. It looks like there are less frames in my base video (like 12 or so) but that's not the case, it's just an exported video file from the editor in PAL, 25 fps and it looks just fine.
I have tried a lot to overcome this; things like cutting the background video to exactly the same length as the audio and using different codecs (DV, AVI, MPEG 1 and 2) for both import of the background and export to the final video file. Nothing does seem to help.
Does anyone know what I can do about this?
Thanks in advance.
Kindest regards,
Eric |

As you are preparing the background video yourself -- have you tried using different codec for the background video? _________________ Piotr

Yes, I tried using uncompressed avi, DV avi, avi with a few delivery codecs (like Cinepak), mpeg1 (VCD style) and MPEG 2 DVD. To be sure it wasn't the video itself I used two different sources; a commercial DVD and a DV avi stream I made myself.
I hope you can shed some light on this? Thanks!

Have you tried re-encoding the background video? In my question I did not mean using different compression for karaoke video.
Also please check if you are using the latest version of PVK (1.2.28 ). _________________ Piotr

Yes, the codecs I mentioned were the ones I used for encoding just the background video, i.e. the video file I use as a background during exporting. Let me stress that all these test files played back very smoothly on WMP and external TV screens.
None of these codecs seemed to produce a discernable difference to the jerkyness of the end result from PVK, regardless of what codec I used to export from PVK...
I will check the version number and download if necessary.
Thanks so far.
Kindest regards,

The version we use is the latest, 1.2.28.
I have now resorted exporting without background video, and afterwards keying the background color out against the background video in our editing software. The results are not as sharp however, because chroma key leaves the edges of the letters a little rough. Apart from that it takes a lot more time.

Can you possibly create a short (like 10-20 seconds) fragment of the background video and post it on the web for me to download and analyze? _________________ Piotr

I made a 30 second clip in Windows DV AVI format, cut from the same material I used all along. It has some smooth motion (i.e. moving vehicles, a panning shot and such).
It can be downloaded at:

It's 103 MB, so let me know if it needs to be in another, smaller format.
Kindest regards,
