i'd like to know wich format and settings are best if you're aim is to get the least file size possible while converting to a video file not sacrificing the quality, to play in my pc and dvd that plays: VCD, SVCD, MPEG-4 and DivX® 3.11/4.x/5.x. (xvid too of course)

thank you.

I would suggest DivX if your DVD player supports it. It is significantly better than MPEG-1 and -2, and has special mode for low motion (ideal karaoke with still background).

If your DVD does not support DivX then MPEG-2 is the best.

I'm trying this out for the first time and used 128k mp3 audio compression and DivX compression on a 2 meg cdg file and a corresponding mp3. The resulting AVI was about 11 megs. Does this sound like a good result or can you get good quality with an even smaller file size?

Thanks.

Yep, this sounds fine. The size is quite small.
