Problem solved! The wizard is not the cause at all. The root cause is the character ’. <- [the apostrophe] This apostrophe has hex value 92. the normal apostrophe (') has hex value 27. Replacing all the wrong apostrophes with the normal one did the trick. Lesson: Copy-paste can be easy and yet tricky.

An addendum:

I have found a workaround: Do not use the New Song Wizard!
Projects started without using the wizard do not have the described error.

After several more tests on different projects that gave a lot of errors earlier, I'll say that things have improved dramatically with version 2.2.17.
