Siglos 2 microphone latency in Windows 7

Post by equis3 »

Hello....I recently purchased Siglos 2 from you and I am having a problem with latency. I am running Windows 7 and getting about 500 M/S delay on my microphone. Looked in all the online stuff and everyone is complaining about this problem. With earlier versions of Windows such as XP, you just plugged in your mike and it was perfect, but with 7 there is a bad latency problem. Surly I am not the first person to ask about this?
Is there a fix that you know of?
Thank You ,

Please try to adjust "Playback offset" in File -> Settings -> Recording.

Hi Again Adam....I have tried reinstalling the sound card drivers, with the same results. Here is what I propose to do and I would like to ask you your opinion, if it will work.
Anyone who has tried feeding a mike, guitar or keyboard input into any version of Windows 7, has exactly the same problem, a latency of
about 500 milliseconds. They say its not the sound card or the drivers, but the OS itself, as this never happened in XP or 2000 versions of
Windows. If you look on the net you will find many references to this problem. Quite a few are saying to use a Roland Tri-Capture or a
Behringer UCA202 as an interface between the computer and the microphone or instrument. Both of these devices have ASIO low latency
drivers, which supposedly will cut the latency down to below 15 M/S. I have attached a couple of links to them here:

http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/UCA202.aspx
Thanks,
Bruce

manu suplied ASIO drivers can be ok, but as they are made for that specific piece two different ones can confict and cause problems. on my studio comps i have always run http://www.asio4all.com/ and it works perfectly on windows 7.
now you're talking about Roland or Behringer interfaces, were you trying to go through the line input on the comp? that has limitations while something low end like an M-Audio fastrack with ASIO4ALL drivers i have gotten to ~7ms latency. something nicer like Lexicon Alpha i run with ~4ms latency.
hope this helps

Hi Paradigm....I tried installing the Asio drivers on my computer and they totally locked up my system and I had to do a manual power off shutdown and then a re-start into safe mode to un-install them. There definitely IS a latency problem in 7 because far too many very competent people have been complaining about it and getting the same answer over and over again from Microsoft. Roland or Behringer interfaces were items mentioned by people posting on the problems, even on Microsoft sites. Now I have seen another that said they had good results using Presonus firebox. All these items use low latency Asio drivers. My only question was....will they work in a Karaoke application? They connect either by USB or Firewire and have their drivers and interface with the system's audio.
I looked at the M-Audio fastrack anf the Lexicon Alpha and they appear to be the exact same type on USB interface. I am presuming these would all be doing the same thing. Are you running through these into a Siglos 2 application in Windows 7? Can you explain how you are doing it?
Thank You,
Bruce

It seems the problem is listening to your own voice over the computer. When you used a mike input in XP, there was never a problem, but in 7 there is a latency of 250 M/S>>>>500 M/S
This happens when you click on listen...in the output of the microphone. What they are doing with these devices apparently, is using the music output of Siglos, either through the USB connection, or into the LINE input of the device, and then adding the microphone with the device microphone input. If this sounds like it will work, then it should work with probably any of these devices. Does anyone have an opinion on that?
Thanks Again,
Bruce

2-3 seconds of latency for recording

Post by guitarra vieja »

I've had the same problem - recently purchasing the Pro version and just tried the recording - get about 2-3 seconds of latency.

d/l'd the suggested program, also seems to not make a difference

http://screencast.com/t/De7XHkcbr3um is a short video of everything - hopefully that helps explain things.

BTW, in order to get the ASIO4ALL to show after install, I had to install with all the options (the basic one never gave me the options screen), so I'm not really sure it will work on my system at all (Win 7 - guess that is obvious as it has the latency issue!).

Any suggestions are most welcome - I have discussed the possibility of recording singers with my host and he likes the idea (never considered it would be such an issue!) but when I tested it I found this.

Note that I am in Ecuador and don't have an electronics shop on every corner - hardware solutions are costly at best (every bit of electronics here has a 2X purchase price import duty and there are no returns!) and shipping takes just over a month longer than to a US destination, so a software solution is extremely welcome (even with no high-speed internet...)

Thanks in advance for your help!

UPDATE - found 'fix' for latency.....

Post by guitarra vieja »

did a lot of research and found this post

I understand you are using Pro version? Please try disabling 'Skip silence at the beginning' in KJ settings.
WORKED! Now, even with Windows 7, etc. the latency is gone and I can record (although I have some practicing to do.... ;)

I had done a search before posting, but only found the 'fix' from a really old post so thought an update here might help someone else.
