stop delay when playing in itunes

Post by tmessmer »

When playing the converted videos in itunes, at the very beginning of playback, a short pause (like a skip) takes place. It only happens 1 or 2 seconds into the start of each video (song), and can be quite annoying, especially because some songs are playing the music already, and sometimes the words have already started. This only happens on my laptop computer which is 2g RAM, microsoft vista, maybe only 3 months old. As a test, I moved a few songs to another laptop with itunes, and the same result occurs. I moved a few to a desktop and did not have this problem. However, because I like to take the music with me to friends houses for parties, I was hoping you might suggest a solution or a fix for this skipping on the laptop.
Thanks

Have you turned off all mobility features?

Two that come to mind are
  • power saving (hard drive might be asleep) and
impact resistance (some HDs park their read heads to avoid corruption in the event of drop.
Good luck.

My hard drive is not parked. I can choose a video, stop it, choose another one and the same pause at the beginning happens. Every time without fail. It sort of acts like a sort of buffering pause you sometimes get when large watching large video files from the internet. It's puzzling and distracting for sure. I am hoping someone else has experienced and fixed this. I've looked through the settings in itunes and quicktime and because I don't really know what I'm looking for, I don't see anything jumping out at me. Sort of like when a car motor dies and you see the person looking under the hood. You know they can't fix it and they are going to call the tow truck. But hey! I looked.

Does the song play properly on your iPod?

I have the iphone and have no problems with pausing. I also tried it on another desktop and no problems. I seems like some kind of buffering, it's really annoying and i have no ideas how to stop it. Apple doesn't seem too interested in helping me find a solution, so I was hoping you all could think of something. I'm clueless.
Thanks

And what happens if you play the MP4 file with Quicktime?

In Quicktime, it plays flawlessly. any of the mpeg4's play without the early hesitation. Do you have any ideas how to get itunes on the same page as quicktime?
Thanks

I am sorry, but I have no idea why iTunes are playing up. As you can see it is the only software that does it, so it is probably a bug in it.
