... Tried to download the trial version but google wouldn't let me. Got this warning:

"The site ahead contains harmful program .... blah blah blah"

... What's up with that?

It is a false positive alarm triggered by the new Chrome security service. It is safe to download and install software from PowerKaraoke website.
