In this post: "Converting CDG to DVD/DivX"
http://www.powerkaraoke.com/forum/about ... light=divx

These 4 steps are given on how to convert CD+G to Divx and then to burn a DVD. This is exactly what I want to do but I have a few questions.

Step #1:
Extract audio & data (lyrics) from my CDG. I think I can use AudioGrabber or TMPGenC, but which is better?
<I have already ripped so I have CDG+MP3 files on my system>

Step #2:
Convert the extracted files to avi. I plan on using Power CDGtoAVI, but is there a better option?
<I bought Power CDGtoAVI for this purpose, I converted using Divx 6.2.2 codec>

Step #3: Encode (compress) the avi using DivX. (My player is DivX compatible.) I'm doing this because it will result in a much smaller avi, and allow more files per disc.
<Why is this step necessary if PowerCDGtoAVI already converted to Divx?>

Step #4: Burn each of the indivdual avi's to DVD. I am planning to use Nero, but I guess most DVD authoring tools will work.
<not done this yet, but based on response to burn DVD data (UDF or ISO?) Iwill try this once I get past the converting part.>

I have VocoPro DVX-680k which support Divx DVDs. Thanks for your help in advance.

Step #3 is not needed of course. Power CD+G to AVI Converter will use XviD encoder by default, it is compatible with most DivX players. So once you have AVIs you do not have to do anything more with them.

Regarding step#4 -- use ISO, as it offers better compatibility.

Thanks for the reply. I installed the Divx Converter 6.2.2 codecs and used it with PowerCDGtoAVI conversion to create avi files. So I believe I created Divx files to start with. However, the file sizes were in the 30-60MB range. Then I took those files and (further?) converted them using Divx Converter which in turn created .divx files. These were in the size range 3-5MB.

Could I have compressed down to this size directly with POwerCDGtoAVI? If so can you help me with which settings I can use to achieve this compression directly using PowerCDGtoAVI?

One more question, if I want to burn these onto CD instead of DVD, which CD format should I use, ISO or VCD?

Thanks

You can change the compression settings for the chosen converter in Video Compression dialog box. Just select the codec and click Configure button. In general, the slower the bitrate the better compression, but unfortunately quality suffers. I suggest to experiment with the configuration to get the best results.

Regarding you second question, the choice depend on your DVD player features. If it supports avi files, you can record them as a standard data files, thus you can choose ISO.
