Karaoke video creator: add comments in lyrics

I would like to be able to add comments/notes in the lyrics
to help me while formatting and syncronizing.
That could be marking up a duet with which lines belongs
to which singer, page markers or event comments.
It would be a special character which signals that the rest of the line
(including the special character) should be disregarded as lyrics.
The special character should be selectable, just like
the syllable separator and the hard space character.
This could apply to the CD+G creating programs as well,
I'm guessing a common engine is used for all three programs.
