I have all the music files on an external drive and each time I connect, it asks me to validate songs. Even worse, the search is very slow. I search artist or song and after two letters it stops and will not take a third letter for ages.

Please make sure the drive letter of the external drive does not change after it is reconnected.
Also, please increase the value for "Number of characters to start interactive search" in File -> Settings -> KJ cont.

have mine set at 5 before starting search and it work pretty good.
