Found reason for crashes

I have used this software for several years, and the last year being on Windows 8 (and all updates).
I would often get crashes when adding a singer upon getting to the 3rd character of the song title. The first time this started was when my external hard drive had started to fail, and upon replacing that it was fine again.
However, it started tonight and i knew the drive was fine, and I was able to verify that the files were there by just looking in Windows Explorer. However, I noticed that my drive letter had changed from "F" to "G" because I had inserted an SD card from my digital camera earlier, and had not restarted my computer in between sessions. (I also do not start a new session when I quit karaoke shows; I only perform at one club at the present time). My setup files pointed to my karaoke files being contained on "F", and it was looking there.
I tried ejecting the SD card but was unable to create a changed drive letter that way, and restarting without the SD card in the laptop, but that didn't change it. I did find that I could right click the bottom corner of Windows and get to a Disc Management menu and changed it that way, but it didn't fully solve the problem. I got one singer additionally added, but when I went to add a second song for him, it crashed again, same spot. 3rd letter of search.
I restarted the software again, and I could get one singer in at a time, then crash. This continued for a while, and if I tried to add anything during a song, it'd crash during the song too.
I noticed that my entry - I sing in the rotation too - was grayed out. On "inactive" - and all this while, my system was moving VERY slowly (the program, anyway). I un-inactivated that setting on my name, and BOOM the whole system worked immediately as if nothing was ever wrong.
If you're experiencing crashes, always:
-check drive letter assignment in your music folders/setup
-see if inactive setting on a singer changes it - maybe better to just clear their songs out if you wanna keep them on the list if it does fix the issue for you!
