no change.

Perhaps instead of chasing a 'problem', maybe a more complete explanation on what 'fill-in' SHOULD be and how it is designed to be used, etc. would be helpful.

The Help file says
Fill in list is automatically activated when no song from the main playlist is being played.
Well, that is what is happening (sometimes - see detail below), though it is UNDESIRABLE (to me, anyway) when another song is in queue (i.e., will be played in a few seconds - certainly when it has been announced on the screen).

This feature is VERY DESIRABLE when;
1. No other songs are in queue (totally empty playlist - WORKS)
2. All singers are marked as 'Disabled' or all their songs are finished (to me, this is similar to 'none in queue', though I am seeing it reacts differently in the software as it does NOT play at this time)
3. When starting the program (with/without any songs/singers in the queue) - WORKS
4. When 'loading' an empty playlist
  • adding a singer/song - WORKS
adding a Preset list - does NOT work
Really, to me, the only time it is UNDESIRABLE is when a song is being played and another is queued up to play (not sure how that works in the code, but visibly I would say that whenever the 'next' song announcement comes up the fill-in should not be played). Perhaps some people like this as they have a long wait time between singers (I read one post about a KJ having to go up on stage to change songs, etc. - in that scenario it might be good to have some fill music). Perhaps an option to "Play fill-in playlist between singers" or something would be the simplest to work with.

I have noticed that I can 'eliminate' the "splash" of music by taking the 'Singer announcement duration in automatic mode' to a very low number (like 3 seconds) AND setting the 'Advance to next song on fill-in playlist every time fill-in is activated'. This 'work around' basically just plays the starting silence of the song in the fill-in list - it does not fix nor address the problem.

I trust this helps explain what I am seeing (and I believe it is what KJ Bob was saying as well).

Thanks for your constant support on a fine product.

should i understand that as you do NOT want the fill in music to play in between singers?
you are wanting it to be silent until the next singer starts singing?

Fill-in works when karaoke is not playing. So if you have automatic mode enabled, it will kick-in when singer announcement is displayed. So if you have announcement screen displayed for a short time, the fill-in fades in and out immediately.

That is correct.

At least, not 1 second of something - I believe it is more a distraction than a 'plus' (when there is just one 'splash' of music between songs, people look at me like I did something wrong - or something is wrong with the song/program/etc. With a longer 'standard' time between singers, I could see that as a benefit, or perhaps if the music is a 'ta-dah' type (something that is intended to be quick and maybe get the people moving...).

However, we are in a small location (only about 60 people max) and often the next singer is at the same table (here, very few want the 'star' position - it is typical they sit at the table and we just pass around the mic).

During the change-over to next song/singer, we 'chatter' (promote applause, marketing reminders, announce the next singer, etc.) - it is only around 7 seconds (less when we don't use the announcement page). Interrupting it with a second of some song does seem like, to me, a distraction.

I would be interested in hearing experiences from other more seasoned KJs in using it (and the whole system). I come from an old DJ background (on the radio for a few years, doing tons of live remotes and a weekly 'skate party' event) where whole songs or ads are played, not 'splash' from a popular song. At least, to me, it feels more like someone is running the show without the tiny bit of 'whatever' music, though, again, I am open to opinion on how to better use the feature.

Thanks for a detailed explanation on how it should work - it is what I see between songs (though not in other times, as detailed before).

With more practice, I will learn what the software will/won't do and find a way to suit my show into it.

For now, I think the background screen is how I will go - we are creating some marketing pages for that and will start using them tonight. I can also shorten the timer to eliminate the 'splash' and even some things in the fill-in list can be done (add in a 'song' of 5 seconds of silence and turn off the 'Randomize' feature to just play it every time - or just clear the fill-in list while we have a busy list, etc.), so I have a couple work-arounds to try.

I want a 'set it and forget it' system, though (as many have stated on the forum) the software is not, can not and even should not, be a replacement for a KJ doing their 'work', which is to provide the most pleasant experience possible to their crowd, utilizing the tools at their command.

If you don't want music to play between singers just turn the Vol. down to 0 until you want to play music then turn it back up. I turn it down very low between singers and then when wanting to play some dance song or it I have to make a run to the bathroom I turn the music back up. Works well for me.
