recommended resolution for pictures

Post by scouse »

I'd like to use a graphic in a picture, but the results are poor, I guess to fill a TV screen the resolution would need to be very high.

Some of the major cdg producers have great graphics,

Can anyone tell me at what resolution would a picturee need to be to produce graphics and what about photos.

I had this idea that I could produce an ad in cdg format for small local businesses, who could pay a small fee to show their ad to karaoke audiences and thereby fund a karaoke competition prize over a number of weeks.

The sound files and text are easy enough but good quality pictures would really make it a good deal for the advertisers.

What do you think?

Images should be 288 x 192 pixels and cannot have more then 16 colors. If you yse software like Photoshop you should be able to reduce color depth and get better results then if you used high color image in PowerKaraoke. PowerKaraoke has fairly good color-reduction algorithm, but graphics editing software does it better.

Once you have the image save it as 4-bit BMP file to ensure that PowerKaraoke will not modify it.

poor graphics

Now I'm more confused than ever

I did seem to get it to work once but I can't work out how I did it

You say 288 x 192 but how does that relate to the size of the picture in inches or centimetres or the dpi, If I do it in photoshop these values change when i change the resolution to the values you suggest.

also all i can find in photoshop for 16 colours is indexed colour and this reduces the quality straight away. There are other settings too but they're even more confusing.

I'm sorry if there is something I'm missing that's really simple but all i want to do is put some pictures into my cdg, and i can't find any reference to this in the help files

I'd appreciate some help

thanks

I am not an expert on Photoshop, but you should be able to change units to pixels somewhere in preferences.

Regarding quality -- first resize the image, then reduce colors. And yes, reducing colors in hi-color image will result in quality loss. You may use dithering and various palette modes to improve quality -- Photoshop help file should describe all options it offers.
