database and usb drive

Post by Brenda9995 »

I have a very large external HD. On my laptop it was drive E several times in a row. Today it says it drive G no matter what usb port I plug it into...When I imported the first time, I told it to look in Drive F as that is what I thought it was when I copied the music to the new usb drive. Well, then I discovered that on my laptop in was Drive E so I imported on the laptop telling it to look in Drive E. Worked great. Now today the usb drive says Drive G no matter which usb I plug it into. I'm guessing you've realized I'm not KJ and certainly not proficient in this sort of thing. Soooo, here's what I need to know.

1. How to get SKP to find my usb without spending days importing and validating. Already my db says it has almost 700,000 songs because I didn't delete the first import when I imported the 2nd time. S

2. How to delete the first import list.

3. If I make the usb HD a static letter, will that mean I won't be able to use it with my desktop computer? Is it the usb drive on the computer that I'd be making static or the external HD. If it is the HD, then it stands to reason that I can't go between computers.

4. I think I incorrectly imported an additional 300+ songs and it removed my other ones. I think I should have "add files"...yes? Instead of import?

I'm running out of time. I must have this laptop able to find all music in less than a week when we leave for the summer and I prolly won't have internet access to seek help as we travel. Any help anyone can offer will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Brenda
